Red Kite Safaris

During the summer months we will be offering a unique experience for those who would like to see Red Kites in their natural habitat
                                           …the Hills of Wales..
You will be driven in a 4X4 vehicle to one of the beautiful hilltops of the Black Mountains, where you will witness, at close quarters, the awesome flying and aerobatics of our Kites, using the thermals and updrafts of the hills to demonstrate their wonderful powers of flight.
We want everyone to have the chance to film and photograph the Kites, and also be able to offer them food from their hands, which the Kites will casually eat “on the wing”.
These days would make a “present with a difference” for a loved one, or even a husband or wife. The vouchers we supply have no expiry date, so should the weather prove to be unkind on the day, another day will be arranged as soon as possible.

One Day Falconry Course

An introduction to the Art of Falconry. 
This course includes Feeding & weighing of the birds, handling, basic training, equipment as well as a walk through the woods with Harris Hawks.
It is designed to stimulate and inform those who are considering the possibility of taking up Falconry some time in the future. Most of the basic requirements of Falconry will be discussed, and we have a DVD for sale, which admirably compliments the clients’ experiences of the day.

Three Day Falconry Course

A more intensive course designed to give the novice Falconer the basic skills & knowledge to enable him/her to train (under supervision) a Harris Hawk or Red Tail of their own. This course is more academic in nature, and will cover many more aspects of Falconry, such as: housing, husbandry, health and disease etc., bearing in mind that the client has usually expressed a wish to be more involved in the sport. Again the DVD will prove an invaluable reference work, making clear in the students’ minds, some of the aspects they may not be sure about after the course end. If any students/clients have any problems after any of the courses, we are only a ‘phone call away, a service we are proud of.

Hawk Experience Day

Spend a morning or afternoon handling various Hawks, Buzzards and owls. Learn to carry them, pick them up correctly, and tie them down safely. This is very much a hands-on affair for those who would like to experience the thrill of the birds returning to them of their own free will. Most people are ecstatic the first time that this happens, and many return to learn more about this ancient and wonderful sport.

Owl Experience Day

We realise that many people are “mad” about Owls, all sorts of owls. If you are a fan, then this half-day could be just the thing for you! The day starts with an introduction to the different birds, who are all individuals, from the cheeky and friendly, to the rather aloof and independent souls.

The Owls that you may be handling include the following:

The cute Barn-Owl, the cheeky Tawny Owl, the strong-willed Bengalese Eagle-Owl, the difficult but beautiful Snowy Owl, and the world’s largest Owl…the European Eagle-Owl.

Such are the problems with training Owls, that we tend to “imprint” or hand rear them in order to eliminate any stress, with the result that they think of us as their parents, so you will be “Mum” or “Dad” for the day.

We explain how we rear, train, feed and fly them, resulting in happy and co-operative birds, and by handling them as we do, all the Owls will love flying to you, (and not only for food).

On certain summer nights we also present our “Owls by spot-light” evenings.
