Peregrine

This is the Peregrine, or, as most of us know it: the Falcon.
“Falcon” by the way is the name of the female Peregrine, the male is called “Tiercel”.
Peregrines eat exclusively other birds, which they catch in flight, mostly by climbing above the prey and stooping at speeds of up to 220 mph, striking it with their hind talon and killing it outright.
The Peregrine is the largest of Britain’s breeding Falcons. The Female Peregrines have a wing span of 40 inches and a flying weight of almost 2 lbs. The males weigh approx. a third less.
Peregrines prefer to live on rocky crags and open countryside. They build no nests but lay their eggs directly onto rocky ledges.
